The Most Versatile of Tools

The mighty axe was used by all sorts of warriors throughout history. But Assassin Creed Valhalla’s portrayal of the viking shows just how deadly the axe really was. In Valhalla, the axe is the most common type of weapon you will come across. But with so many options, what ones are the best? Here are my top 5 Assassin’s Creed Valhalla axes and how to get them. 

5. Varin’s Axe

A thirsty axe craving its next fight

Varin’s Axe is an early game axe that can carry you through the whole game. It is a well balanced bearded axe that has a useful perk if you like to swing fast. Each hit with this axe increases speed, and combined with a few runes, this seemingly sluggish axe hits hard fast. However, after using it for a while you may want a better weapon or a different type of weapon, like a 2-handed axe..

4. Housecarl’s Axe 

Your oath to protect Sigurd

This axe is another early game weapon pairing specifically well with Varin’s Axe, but it does just as well without dual wielding. Housecarl’s Axe has a specific perk that increases attack per hit. It swings faster than Varin’s Axe allowing it to rack up more damage quicker. Also, as you upgrade it, the design looks amazing.

• Stacks the perk immediately with an offhand combo
• Great stun damage

3. Lagertha’s Axe

Lagertha’s Axe is a powerful weapon and deadlier when surrounded by more than 3 enemies. Paired with the Brigandine Armor, the more enemies around, the more powerful you will become. It deals a ton of stun damage and has  a high crit chance to boost its epic perk. Which increases critical damage when surrounded by 3 or more enemies.

• Pairs well with Brigandine armor
• A great dual wield with the Battle Sparth

2. Sepulcher Axe

An ornate heirloom that doesn't hang on a wall

The Sepulcher Axe is one of, if not the best looking axe in the game. However, its perk combined with the Battlefield Cremation skill in the bear tree makes it godly. The wicked power of this weapon is great, especially combined with the use of crit enhancing weapons, or specifically the Carolingian Longsword guaranteeing your firepower is always top tier.

• Ignite your foes ablaze

1) Vordr’s Bite

If Death used an Axe instead of a scythe, this would be his

Vordr’s Bite is the best raw damage Dane axe in the game. However, it sacrifices speed for strength. This axe is a difficult axe to get requiring you to  kill all legendary animals excluding, Vinland’s and Jotunheim’s legendary animals. I believe this axe to be too slow for my taste, but there is no denying its raw power and wicked design. You feel like an executioner mowing down Saxons like cutting grass.

What makes Vordr’s Bite the best?

• Its raw attack and stun stats are off the charts
• Paired with poison boosting runes and the Miasma skill, poison is very effective 
• With armors like Thegn’s or Brigidine’s, the axe is even more monstrous
• It's a rewarding weapon to receive from the legendary hunts

How to get Vordr’s Bite: 

In the end, all that matters is what you prefer. These are some of the many axes in the games. Which kind of axe do you prefer? Fast one-handed ones? Or slower brutal two-handed ones?
