The 10 Best Skyrim Enchantments

Even with the Elder Scrolls 6 recently announced at E3 this year, Skyrim has never died. It still remains one of the most popular RPGs out there, and for a good reason. It’s the kind of game you can play over and over, trying a different character each time. So take a look at what we have for you to consider for your next playthrough: the five most badass weapon enchantments, and the five most badass armor enchantments to add some kick to that next beastly character of yours. (Only vanilla enchantments are included, so everyone can get some ideas)!

Top 5 Best Skyrim Weapon Enchantments

Number 5: Simple Fire

Where can you go wrong with this one? Of the three elemental enchantments, fire is just all-round useful and deals extra burn damage. Unless you’re going for an ice or lightning theme, this has to be the sickest one to use. Any perks that affect fire damage will also affect the enchantment, so you might consider leveling up destruction to burn your enemies to a crisp. My personal favorite is putting this on a two-handed weapon, because I just love slaying every enemy with a single heavy, fiery blow.

Number 4: Soul Trap

This one is just straight-up super useful. If you’re playing a spellsword or any kind of weapon-user with a hint of magic, this is a must-have. It makes enchanting way easier to level, so you can deck out your character in enchantments that much faster. And the idea of trapping people’s souls is just pretty cool.

Number 3: Absorb Magicka

Here’s where we step up the game. This one’s not the most common one you see on people’s characters, but I think it’s seriously underrated. It’s the perfect enchantment for a spellsword: blast your enemies down with magic, finish them off with your weapon, and then have all your magicka back to move onto the next opponent. It’s a fresh, interesting way to be a true battlemage.

Number 2: Paralysis

There’s no way this one wouldn’t be on the list. It’s so powerful that it sometimes feels like downright cheating. If you’re hitting your enemy and they can’t even move, they don’t stand a chance. And in case you didn’t know, the exact percent chance of paralyzing an enemy with this enchantment is 26%. So when you’re slashing and hacking at foes 24/7, that comes down to a lot of paralysis.

Number 1: Absorb Health

This had to be number one. Want to be immortal? Well, with a powerful enough absorb health enchantment, you can be. Here’s an idea: a heavy-armored character with a two-handed weapon that absorbs health. Go into battle with a monster like that and you can fight an entire army on your own. No, seriously, you can basically fight all the battles in the civil war questline by yourself with this. It’s just too good.

Top 5 Best Skyrim Armor Enchantments

Number 5: Fortify Smithing

This one gives you an indirect buff, but having that buff alone can give you access to the ultimate items. Equipping a full set of armor that enhances your smithing skill can let you break the limits of weapon and armor improvements. You might not wear this gear into battle, but having a set for when you’re creating that legendary sword that slays any enemy in a single swing is certainly useful. Try it with alchemy, too, if you like buffing your character like crazy.

Number 4: Resist Magic

Resisting all magic is probably one of the most useful enchantments you can get. If you can stack this up to a maximum, say goodbye to all your troubles against mages and dragons. It’s even easier if you play as a Breton and get that passive magic resist bonus. There’s something so satisfying about running through all your opponent’s firebolts and ice storms like nothing before cutting them down.

Number 3: Muffle

You’ve gotta have this if you’re an assassin or the sneaky type in general. It’s just too useful. And here’s a fun tip: the Falmer are blind. So next time you go into one of their caves, you can walk right in front of them with this enchantment and they won’t even know you’re there.

Number 2: Fortify Unarmed

Now this one might surprise you, but it’s also surprisingly fun to play as a fistfighter. Hilarious, even. One character I played had such dangerous punches that he was basically the One Punch Man of Skyrim. I paired that with the slow time shout to run through hordes of enemies and punch them all to death before they could even react. I’d totally recommend trying it out.

Number 1: Fortify Sneak

And finally, we have possibly the most entertaining enchantment in the game. Not only will this allow you to sneak better in general… but if you stack enough of this on your character, you’ll be able to sit right in front of people in broad daylight without them noticing you. Maybe unrealistic, but definitely super fun. Pair this with muffle and you can sneak past anything.
