For Honor: How To Play Tiandi Like a Pro!

The Flashiest For Honor Hero!

The Frontrunner for the Wu-Lin Faction is arguably one of the best looking characters in the game. Their armor fashion for both playable genders is off the charts and can allow for some very unique designs.

However, looking cool and playing at a level to match that are two very different things. The Tiandi is a character that stands out amongst the rest due to their dance move-like fighting style. Tiandi are quick and are listed as dodge specialists. Mastering them can be both a fun and frustrating experience, but we are here to give you the scoop on how to keep it on the fun side.

Beginner Tips

1. Flow Like Water (FLW)

The Flow Like Water Style combat that the Tiandi has refers to their side dodge heavy strikes. Activating this allows for the Tiandi to enter into a very long dodge that lasts about four beats longer than a normal dodge attack does. When you reach the end of the dance you land a heavy strike that can open up several combinations for you.

2. The Kick Felt Around The World

The Tiandi can follow up heavy attacks and any Flow Like Water strikes with a MASSIVE kick. This kick is difficult for the opponent to dodge and when it lands it will send the enemy flying across the battlefield. It allows for easy setups to kick an enemy off the map or simply throw off their battle rhythm. The kick will do a bit of damage, but will essentially restart the fight for you and give you the upperhand moving forward.

3. Zone Attack, Kick!

(Time stamp for Zone Attack Kick: 1:50)

While most players use the Flowing Like Water Stance to set up the heavy kick, another easy option is to use the Tiandi's Zone Attack. This attack allows the Tiandi to jump and spin twice, slashing with their sword all the way around. Once completed you can hit the breaker input to pull off a standing Heavy Kick. While this has the potential for a large stamina drain it can help flesh out your strategies.

Advanced Tips

1. Heavy Kick Follow Up

When you have successfully kicked your opponent across the room you can follow up with a well timed forward dodge heavy attack. The reason that this ability is in the advanced tips section is due to the timing. Over a year ago you used to only be able to follow up the kick if the enemy hit something that prevented them from falling back the full distance from the kick.

However, after an update the Tiandi can now instantly follow up with a devastating heavy attack. You have to instantly begin inputting the dodge heavy once you land the kick which can be difficult to do. Once you master this though you will leap through the air and add some insult to the kick injury. This will also allow you to instantly close the gap you created and prevent your opponent from getting a plan of attack put together.

2. Canceling Out of Flow Like Water

Flow Like Water is a great ability that allows the Tiandi to stand out amongst the many other easter swordsmen. However, once you fight someone a few times they will begin to get the timing down and be ready for the unusually timed dodge attack. Learning to cancel out of Flow Like Water is essential to keeping an enemy on their toes.

When you start to notice the enemy time for your FLW strike, use the cancel input and double tap with a light strike. This will teach them that sitting out your ability is not a reliable option.

3. FLW Change Directions

(Time stamp for Zone Attack Kick: 2:18)

Many novice Tiandi do not realize that you can switch the direction of your FLW attack as many times as your stamina allows. Simply input the opposite movement direction from where your hero is attacking from and your Tiandi will restart the attack from the opposing side.

This is another great way to keep your opponent wary of the primary fighting stance and just adds another variable for them to worry about.

4. Combine All The Tips

While this is an obvious tip for all of my guides, this one needs the point driven home the most. The Tiandi's abilities do not drain nearly as much stamina as you would think so long combat situations without running out of stamina are definitely possible. Making long combo attacks based on the above strategies are a must to succeed. The bottom line is that the Tiandi is another straightforward character, but if you can punish your opponent into not having enough time to think then you can put a heck of a beat down on them. Zone attack, kick, followup kick, FLW heavy, and kick again are my favorite. That exact combo can be pulled off and will leave you stamina drained. However, ending on a kick will give the enemy very little time to capitalize on your Tiandi, plus they will be almost dead by then.

The Tiandi is a flagship hero for For Honor and is tons of fun if you learn to play like a pro. They can come off seeming a bit weak at first, but if you utilize their skills to their full potential they can become a terrifying warrior to face. If you want some more For Honor content check out the rest of my articles, especially the best Heavies, Vanguards, and Hybrids articles!
