[Top 10] Minecraft Best Farms That Are Excellent

Let’s face it: running out of basic resources in Minecraft is annoying. It’s frustrating and time-consuming, and sometimes, the effort it takes to restock doesn’t seem worth it when you know you’re inevitably just going to run out again. Some of the most inconvenient items to run out of are wood, food, and mob drops, but luckily, there are mechanics in the game that are easy to manipulate to your advantage. Here are ten farms that make collection easy, so you’ll never run out of anything again - even including rarer resources like iron, blaze rods, and netherite.

10. Veggie Farm

This farm is one of the only farms on this list that doesn’t run entirely on its own, so don’t expect to AFK this one - however, it’s still worth the build, and is a great farm to kick us off as it provides one of the most basic resources required to survive in Minecraft: food! It’s designed to be simple, using fairly common materials, so you can build this farm right at the start of your game and be set with bountiful harvests for the remainder of your adventure. Using water, trap doors, hoppers, and a chest, you can sweep stacks and stacks of carrots, potatoes, and wheat straight into your welcoming arms with the flick of a lever.

Chopping down trees one by one as needed can take an awful lot of time and an awful lot of patience, which is mildly irritating in early game but graduates to deeply loathsome in late game, when you simply don’t have the motivation for petty chores like collecting wood. Alas, wood never ceases to be an integral resource, so in order to keep things fresh and fun, here’s an automatic tree farm that will allow you to collect wood quickly and easily while AFK. Following Mysticat’s clear and clever engineering, the redstone is actually not too terribly complicated - and the comments remind us to set the repeater to four ticks to avoid blowing up your farm!

I’ve seen variations on this particular farm, but this take is my favorite due to how much cleaner it is - so much easier on the eyes! Not to mention, this farm is extremely efficient, not only providing close quarters for maximum speed cow breeding, but also an instant way to cull the herd, providing you with the ever-crucial resources of both leather and cooked steak. I feel like a structure like this would be easy to integrate into any survival world, not only physically but aesthetically, and it would make collecting leather for bookshelves a cinch.

7. Hostile Mob Farm

This farm isn’t too terribly complex, but it will take a little bit of elbow grease to build, so put on a playlist or a podcast, roll up your sleeves, and get ready to work. With ten floors for mobs to spawn on and a foolproof way to collect them and their drops, you can acquire thousands and thousands of resources in just a short hour or so away from the computer. Once this farm is built, it requires no hands-on interaction, and you’ll be raking in the bones and gunpowder for days!

6. Vegan XP Farm

Want more experience points without the need for mob hunting or grinding? Or maybe you just really like the color green? Look no further than this clever and efficient mob-free XP farm. This farm uses bamboo and cacti to generate endless XP points. The greenery grows without any personal involvement on the player’s part, and a combination of hoppers and ever-moving minecarts on powered rails automatically retrieves their produce and deposits it into furnaces to cook and generate experience for the player to collect at their leisure. Plus, it makes a lot of green dye!

5. Tunnel Mining Farm

This “farm” was the best option I could find to speed up the lengthy process of mining for netherite - however, I think it’s better described as a hands-free mining machine! Technically, you could use it anywhere, not just the Nether. Stick your player model down on that honey block and ride this mining machine deep into the stone as it digs itself a tunnel to pass through using TNT and pistons! This farm would be a great way to mine for netherite without the endless hours of manual labor usually involved, but would likely not be the best farm to leave running too long without any kind of supervision… you never know when you’ll dig out into the open of the Nether, just for a Ghast to destroy all your hard work.

4. Blaze Rod Farm

In my opinion, the most frustrating material to collect would be the blaze rod, dropped by Blazes in the Nether. Finding a fortress is hard… fighting Blazes is also hard… avoiding the treacherous lava seas far below you is extra hard. The bad news is that blaze rods are crucial if you want to properly go to the End and finish the game, but the good news is that this farm makes this part of the game so much simpler! Once this farm is up and running, you can AFK in front of the kill zone using an auto-clicker and collect stacks and stacks of blaze powder for potions and Eyes of Ender - all without the danger or hassle of normal Blaze hunting!

3. Villager Farm

To a new player, Villagers might not seem like particularly important or useful mobs, but to a veteran, it is well-known that Villager trading is an incredibly advantageous feature of the game and one that you can exploit fairly easily. A villager breeding farm provides you with plenty Villagers to specialize and trade with, eventually receiving incredibly valuable loot and resources from those trades. 

2. Iron Golem Farm

This is a farm I hadn’t heard of before I started playing Minecraft with a cousin of mine, but when I learned about it, I knew I had to include it in this list! I’m a big fan of iron tools in Minecraft - it’s far cheaper to replace iron tools than it is to replace diamond ones, so I usually keep my diamond tools in a chest for special occasions and use iron for everything else. This means I end up needing a lot of iron over the course of one adventure. Luckily, this farm is a hands-free method of getting iron golems to spawn and then killing them off to harvest their iron. Be careful not to fall into the farm, though… I did that once… it was terrifying...

1. Endermen XP Farm

This farm is, in my experience - pun intended - the best XP farm available in Minecraft 1.17. Unfortunately, it’s only achievable once you reach the End, but it’s a lot of fun once you get there! This farm spawns in Endermen and drops them forty-four levels down for you to kill instantly with just one click. The hoppers do their thing and collect all the ender pearls, giving you the power of endless teleportation, but, most importantly, you get all that sweet, sweet experience without having to put in a lick of effort! Even building the farm is easier than you might expect. Shulkercraft, our demonstrator, guarantees leveling speeds of level 0 - 33 in under a minute. Talk about efficiency!
