About - Jeziel Flores: Born in an environment where movies and games were commonplace, Jeziel has had a lifelong obsession with these art forms. More than just a means of entertainment, they can be seen a legitimate forms of expression that can inform and illuminate an individual. Having been a budding filmmaker from the tender age of 11, Jeziel has been writing short stories and screenplays to hone his craft, wrote for the high school newspaper movie reviews where he would offer his insight on movies he thought were worth seeing, even winning first place at the first ever film festival at his school that was created to inspire the fellow students to follow a career in film and television. Video games never took a backseat to those interests though. He played a variety of games, from indie titles to the AAA games released on consoles. From Doom to Halo, Legacy of Kain to Metal Gear Solid, if the universe was unique and the gameplay fun, that was enough to sell him. The games that most had the most influence on him were the seminal Metal Gear Solid series, in particular Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Soul Reaver 2,and Spec Ops: The Line. In keeping the list brief, these games provided powerful points of view that helped shape his views on what storytelling in an interactive media can do. Horror video games too also provided a power that aren't seen in movies themselves because of the role a player takes, as seen in Doom 3, the FEAR series, and the Silent Hill series. Writing for video games, even movies as well, provide an interesting challenge. Often times people are taken in by simple first impressions and don't dig deeper as to what the intention of what they're playing can be. Being able to express and opinion through examples, with clarity, helps to legitimize any one's opinion, coming from as informed of a place as possible. Only then can we have smarter discussions that not only enrich a player, but also a creator. To quote the great Werner Herzog, "We have to articulate ourselves, otherwise we would but cows in the field."
