Eren Is Always Watching
SEASON 1
15. Episode 1: To You, In 2000 Years - The Fall of Shiganshina Pt. 1
Starting off strong with the first episode of the first season. If you were unfamiliar with the manga before watching AOT, then this is an episode you will remember forever. It starts off with a giant, skinless man peering over a wall surrounding the city before cutting to the intro song. We’re shortly introduced to the main characters as kids– Eren, Armin, and Mikasa. I remember not being able to pick up on the show's vibe– that is until the Titans broke the wall and invaded the city. This is when the jaw-dropping scene occurred, finally setting the mood for the show moving forward. Eren witnesses his mother being eaten by a Titan. An image both the viewers and Eren will never forget.
14. Episode 3: A Dim Light In The Darkness of Despair
If you want to rewatch an episode to really appreciate Eren’s character development, this is the perfect one. After joining the military, the three friends take on training with the other cadets. Eren openly struggles with using the ODM gear, putting him in a situation where everyone questions his ability to fight. With enough determination, Eren overcomes his struggle– but learns that his gear was defective the entire time.
13. Episode 9: Whereabouts of His Left Arm- The Struggle for Trost Pt.5
This episode premieres after we find out that Eren was inside the “mysterious” titan all along. After everything we see Eren go through in the later seasons, it is nostalgic to look back on this episode and observe how unaware he is of his abilities. He genuinely has no idea why this is happening to him, and it is nice to see Eren while he still has that tiny bit of innocence left inside of him.
12. Episode 14: Still Can’t See- Prelude to the Counterattack Pt.1
Eren is put on trial to determine whether he is a monster or an ally. If you’re caught up to the current season of AOT, then it is funny to watch how (almost) everyone is still so uneducated on Titans and fear that Eren is a threat to humanity. We also get to see our beloved Captain Levi beat up Eren in front of the entire courtroom, that alone deserves a rewatch.
11. Episode 17: Female Titan: The 57th Exterior Scouting Mission Pt.1
There are other Titans who behave like Eren? Yep! This is a great episode to look back on, as Armin runs into a female Titan that appears to show a thought process similar to Eren. Watching all of the characters start to understand that they actually know nothing about Titans is very laughable– knowing what we know now.
SEASON 2
10. Episode 26: The Beast Titan
I wish I could rewatch this episode for the first time again. There’s nothing quite like feeling the excitement after seeing that humongous hairy Titan pop up out of nowhere, as he towers over all of the other Titans— while appearing to have control over them. This show succeeds in throwing you down many loopholes. *chefs kiss*
9. Episode 30: Historia
8. Episode 31: Warrior
Now, THIS episode made my jaw drop. We’re sad and confused from learning about Ymir and Historia’s background… but, now we learn that Bertholdt and Reiner are both Titans also?! They revealed it in such a nonchalant way– if you weren’t fully paying attention to your television then you might have missed it. At this point, is EVERYONE a Titan? Why did Berholdt and Reiner play along this entire time?! A 10/10 plot twist, totally worth a rewatch.
7. Episode 37: Scream
At this point, the entire show is chaotic with fight scene after fight scene– it’s hard to narrow down which episodes deserve a rewatch. But in this episode, we watch Hannes get eaten by the same Titan that ate Eren’s mother. Eren also proceeds to show us his newfound power of controlling Titans– which was SUCH a powerful scene in all of animated history. We also learn that the Titans who came into Wall Rose used to be HUMANS who lived in Ragako.
SEASON 3
6. Episode 39: Pain
If you are a big fan of Attack on Titan, then you already knew this was coming. In this episode, the epic and LEGENDARY fight between Levi and Kenny Ackerman. Everything about this scene is incredible– from the crisp animation to the high-intensity battle. This scene alone is a good enough reason to revisit this episode over and over again.
5. Episode 54: Hero
Levi’s combat scenes in this season are absolutely unforgettable. His iconic battle against the Beast Titan remains one of the reasons why I love anime. Levi comes in and absolutely destroys the Beast Titan, making it look easy. Everything seemed a tad bit too good to be true– until of course the Cart Titan comes along and saves the wretched Beast before it got worse.
4. Episode 55: The Midnight Sun
3. Episode 57: That Day
Finally! At last, we get some sort of explanation on what has been happening for the past three seasons. This episode goes into detail explaining the history of the wall, the Titans, and starts to paint a picture as to who the true enemy is. Definitely an episode you should rewatch if you want to reflect on the background of the Titans thus far.
SEASON 4 - THE FINAL SEASON
2. Episode 66: Assault
This is a great episode to rewatch if you live for the extravagant fight scenes. After getting an insight into the Marleyan culture, we see a mature Eren absolutely killing it in his Titan form. As well as Captain Levi destroying the Beast Titan, and Mikasa defending Eren until the end– all according to the grand plan. This is a high-energy, fun episode. Well, maybe “fun” isn’t the right word. Exciting, nonetheless
1. Episode 73: Savagery
Another 10/10 episode. This had viewers (including myself) on the EDGE of their seats. If you love Captain Levi as much as I do, this episode took you for a bumpy ride. We watch him tear into his Titan comrades left and right– after being tricked by Zeke. Shortly after defeating nearly 20 Titans, he catches up to Zeke and shows him no mercy.
