GTA 6 Release Date And 10 Things We Want!

GTA 6 has been one of the most highly anticipated video games in the last several years. Its release date has been a huge topic of debate among the gaming community. Rockstar has confirmed nothing about the GTA 6 release date and continues a very secretive approach.

Rumors about the location, features, and storyline of GTA 6 are at an all-time high. The rumors of a GTA set in Vice City along with a second South American city persist. We expect GTA 6 to be similar to the GTA Online component of GTA 5, with most of the emphasis put on the online multiplayer paradise. As far as the release date goes, the best guess we have falls somewhere between Christmas 2021 at the earliest and Christmas 2023 at the latest.

A blockbuster title like GTA takes years of research and development. It is realistic to expect Rockstar to spend a minimum of a year after the release of next-gen consoles in order to become acquainted with their capabilities.

Here are some things that we want to see in GTA 6. The following top 10 list is a healthy mixture of sincere hopes along with some rumor fueled predictions.

10. Better Physics

Video game physics are something we often take for granted. We expect game objects, vehicles, and players to behave in ways that make sense to us. Rockstar cut a few corners on GTA 5. Some things appear heavier than they should be. Some things appear lighter than they should be.

  • In GTA 5, trees are perhaps the strongest piece of matter in the game. They are beyond unbreakable. It would be nice to hit a tree in GTA 6 and it not feel like you've hit an iron statue. Maybe a few leaves could fall off too!
  • No one can ignore the fact that a TM-02 Khanjali bounces around like it weighs 5 pounds. In GTA 6, we hope for realistic physics that correspond with the actual weight of the vehicle, whether it be a 25 pound BMX bike or a 50-ton tank, we're hoping that they actually look and feel realistic.

9. Stop With The Futuristic Sh*t

A hated and feared Oppressor MK II, sitting quietly in the Los Santos Storm Drain soon to be terrorizing innocent online players in GTA Online.

Many GTA fans have weighed in on these additions to GTA gameplay and the consensus is in. We want to see a return to the gritty original street-based GTA gameplay that made GTA great in the first place.

  • No one likes the Oppressor MK II. It is perhaps the most hated vehicle of all time. No one wants it.
  • No more alien weapons! We mean it! They're unnecessary and totally out of place.
  • No more war vehicles or overpowered flying vehicles! They may play some role in some game modes. They generally make the overall gameplay experience worse. No one wants to see missile launchers constantly destroying perfectly good supercars.

8. Bigger and Better Maps

A map of Liberty City from the original Grand Theft Auto.

Los Santos is great and all, but we are looking forward to a new map and a new city. While Rockstar never confirmed nor denied this, we have all pretty much accepted the popular rumor that GTA 6 will take place both in Vice City and in a fictional city in South America.

  • A huge map that stretches from Vice City and beyond is something we are all excited about.
  • What if we saw new huge additions open up on the GTA map every few months? This means new islands and new buildings constantly opening up.
  • Vice City and the fictitious South American city are going to be separated by a huge body of water. Nothing too crazy, but we fully expect there to be mysterious things happening on the high seas. We are keeping our fingers crossed for a sea monster that attacks your more primitive boat.

7. More Immersive/Better Gameplay

A Police Maverick chasing after a pickup truck through Blaine County in GTA 5.

Rockstar has proven to be the ultimate innovator when it comes to a lot of its games in the past two decades. In GTA 5, there are countless adversary game modes, challenges, and tasks to complete. Many GTA fans anticipate an even bigger menu of games to choose from.

  • We're hoping for a return of odd jobs. In GTA 4, a player could hop into a taxi and drive pedestrians from one point to the next for extra GTA dollars. While this option was non-existent in GTA 5, we are hoping Rockstar shows some creativity when it comes to unique features like this in the next installment.
  • Off the radar! We hope that there is a default setting in GTA 6 that leaves players off the map. It might make gameplay more immersive and a little more interesting. If a phone call can be made to partially reveal the locations of players, it will provide a better gaming experience and give some free mode players some peace for once.

6. More Free Mode Challenges

The 'Near Misses Challenge' in GTA Online.

The countless unique free mode challenges available in GTA 5 are entertaining and satisfying to complete. The Longest Bail Challenge, Highest Speed Challenge, Longest Inverted Flying Challenge are all challenges unique to GTA Online. We're hoping for more variety and even crazier challenges in the next installment of GTA.

  • Most Light Poles Destroyed Challenge. Who wouldn't want this?
  • Most Crashes or Most Pedestrians Run Over?
  • Cargobob Transport Challenge. It seems totally reasonable for GTA 6 to include a free mode challenge that requires players to use a Cargobob to pick up vehicles and drop them in an area within a certain amount of time.

5. Crackdown on Cheaters/Modders

A modded Vapid Dominator with Miniguns attached to the hood.

We have recently seen a huge increase in cheaters and modders on the console versions of GTA Online. We hope that Rockstar cracks down on cheaters. It is no fun to see a low-level player with an unrealistic 150 k/d ratio running around the map totally invincible or that infamous 3 SECOND total race time. It is simply not fair to see low-level players have better and more expensive stuff than you. There is a time and a place for modders and cheaters for GTA 5 and for GTA 6 and that's the PC!

  • No more God-Mode. No more cheaters.
  • Increased use of the Bad Sport Lobby. Everyone knows that the Bad Sport Lobby contains some of the most toxic players of all time. It serves as a great incentive for you to strive to remain a clean player.
  • Reconfiguration of the "personal vehicle destroyed" violation. We can all agree that a player shouldn't be punished if they successfully destroy an Oppressor MK II that is attacking without reason. What if 50 Oppressors come to attack you and you end up defeating all of them? Should you be the one punished by being thrown into the Bad Sport Lobby? No!

4. Better Combat and Targeting System

A character with a pistol approaching a group of people in GTA 5.

Rockstar has fallen behind on the targeting and weapon system in the GTA Online component of GTA 5 and we hope that GTA 6 joins this century.

  • Ability to carry only a few weapons at a time. There is a rumor that the player will use his/her personal vehicle to carry a limited number of weapons at a time. This will make combat a lot more difficult. It will require a lot more planning. At the moment, every player can carry every single weapon available at all times by using the weapon wheel menu. This doesn't make things too interesting!
  • A more sophisticated targeting system. We want to see a reticle larger than the head of a pin and long-range scopes that actually work and look realistic.
  • We'd like to see more variety of customizable weapons. Instead of the simple ability to equip a scope onto a gun, what about the ability to equip one of 10 different scopes?

3. More Customizable/Better Vehicles

A Truffade Z-Type driving through Los Santos being followed by a Vapid Police Cruiser in GTA 5.

This is something a lot of GTA fans have weighed in on in the last few years. The ability to customize one's car is an essential part of the game.

  • It's great that we have a bulldozer, but we'd like to see functional construction vehicles. This, of course, would be used to play pranks on other players, complete free mode challenges or just mess around.
  • We'd love to be able to add custom paint jobs and odd things. Why not give us the ability to add armor-plated windows to a Boxville? Add cheetah print to a limo? We're hoping GTA 6 allows users to customize vehicles to their liking.
  • How nice would it be to occasionally find an ultra-fast, ultra-rare car, not available in any game mode, not available for sale, yet sitting randomly on the map somewhere?
  • And what is the deal with the police car? What does it take for us to be able to own, customize, and save a police car? Collect donuts and cash to bribe a police station? Let's just make it happen.
  • The station wagon community has been seriously neglected. GTA 5 currently offers a grand total of 5 station wagons (6 if you include the hearse or the Chariot Romero) and none of them are particularly impressive or spectacular. It simply doesn't cut it. We're hoping to see more performance-oriented station wagons, armored station wagons, or even amphibious station wagons.

2. More Interior Locations

The forever under construction 'Mile High Club' in downtown Los Santos. To be completed soon!

Imagine a city where you can actually go INSIDE the buildings. Wow.

  • We have all waited for the Mile High Club in downtown Los Santos to be completed, but it's not gonna be ever be finished. We know that now and we were fools for thinking otherwise. But what if we saw a building under construction in GTA 6 and actually live to see the day that it is completed?
  • In GTA 5, there are countless businesses and buildings that we can only view from the outside. Residential homes, car dealerships, and banks exist, but there's no way to enter and steal stuff. GTA 6 should change this.

We'd like to see players able to make use of the actual interiors in order to find unique vantage points and hiding locations.

1. No More Spam

Trevor Philips looking through the available apps on the 'Facade' smartphone in GTA 5.

Let’s face it, it would be a meaningful evolution to end spam calls on the virtual GTA phone.

  • Why must players be constantly harassed by pushy sales calls?
  • Maybe it is just a revenue booster for Rockstar to spam players. What if we don't want to buy a nightclub or an arcade? Surely there is a more tasteful way to do this other than players rejecting phone calls constantly.
