Top 10 Paper Mario: The Origami King Best Accessories

Dress to impress with accessories in Paper Mario: The Origami King

10. Confetti Vacuum

Game Description: “Allows you to pick up confetti from farther away.”

Ranking at #10, the Confetti Vacuum is a convenience accessory that will save Mario time and make game play incredibly less frustrating. While it’s not an essential accessory, it will definitely make the game more enjoyable. One of the most central exercises of The Origami King is the collection and placement of confetti. Coincidentally, it is also one of the most annoying processes of the game. Basically, the Confetti Vacuum allows Mario to collect confetti much quicker and from a farther distance. If you have the extra coins to spare, purchase the Confetti Vacuum for more gameplay peace.

Advantages:

  • Collect more confetti
  • Makes confetti collection quicker
  • Can collect stuck confetti

Details and how to purchase:

  • Available in early game play
  • Available at the Toad’s Accessory Shop in Toad Town
  • Must complete Red Streamer Quest first

9. Coin Step Counter

Game Description: “Walk 10,000 steps to win a prize! Steps so far: X.”

Ranking at #9, the Coin Step Counter is a quick and easy way to raise Marrio’s fortune! The economics of The Origami King can often be frustrating-- buying collectible  treasures, weapons, and accessories sure empties Mario’s wallet quickly. To make it worse, there isn’t even a place to sell items or weapons! In order to keep Mario financially healthy, it’s important to make sure he has all the financial support available to him. Purchasing this accessory is an easy way to do it.

Advantages:

  • Mario walks a lot in the gameplay; relatively easy to acquire coins
  • Unlimited amount of times he can receive the prize
  • Many of the collectible treasures cost the same amount as the prize

Details and how to purchase:

  • For every 10,000 steps, Mario gets 10,000 coins
  • Not available until mid-late game play
  • Purchase on Bonehead Island (Great Sea) from the Snift

8. Ally Tamborine

Game Description: “Raises attack power for all of your allies for a little bit.” Let’s be honest--Mario’s partners in The Origami King aren’t the most reliable characters. While their attacks are fairly strong, they often miss completely or may even fall asleep (may they rest peacefully). When Mario’s partner does dain to attack, it’s important to make sure that they’re a strong asset. While the ally tambourine raises the attack of Mario’s partners only for a short while, the change is usually a massive upgrade from their normal abilities.

Advantages:

  • Raises attack of allies
  • Helps get “no damage” battle bonus
  • Helps partners become productive

Details and how to purchase:

  • Available mid-game play
  • Available at Toad Town Accessory shop
  • Must complete Princess Peach Ship Quest first

7. Gold Membership Card

Game Description: “Gives you a 50% discount on weapons and items in shops.” The real victim of the game isn’t Peach, but Mario’s wallet. As mentioned in #9, the economic world of Origami King is frustrating, and most of the weapons and items are only available through shops. When equipped, the Gold Membership Card can cut expensive prices by half! There is a regular Membership Card, a Silver Membership Card, and a Gold Membership Card. The first two are available in early-mid gameplay, but the Gold Membership Card is only available in late gameplay.

Advantages:

  • Cuts money spent in stores by half
  • Most weapons and items are rare in nature; can be found at the stores
  • Good way to save on weapons and items in order to spend on collectible treasures at other sites

Details and how to purchase:

  • Not available until late-game play
  • Can be purchased from the snift in Shangri-Spa
  • Must rescue the snift first

6. Toad Alert

Game Description: “Makes a sound when a Toad near you is in trouble.”If it weren’t for the Toad Radar, the Toad Alert would easily rank above #5 and #4. While Toads are both greedy and needy, they are unfortunately the most useful characters in the game. They run the stores Mario needs, they aid quests, and for a modest fee, they can greatly contribute to Mario’s battles. On top of that, in order to get a 100% in the game (thus a secret ending) Mario must find every last folded toad. While the Toad Radar is more specific in finding the location of the toads, the radar dies very quickly and is a pain to recharge. In order to successfully find toads, equip the Toad accessory to find the general area, then whip out the radar for a more specific location.

Advantages:

  • Discovering Toads advances gameplay experience
  • Can save Toad Radar Battery
  • Highlights the general location of hard-to-get toads
  • 100% ending

Details and how to purchase:

  • Rings when a toad is nearby
  • Available in early gameplay
  • Purchase from Accessory Shop Toad near Earth Vellumental Temple
  • Must rescue Toad first

5. Treasure Alert

Game Description: “Makes a sound when a chest or Collectible Treasure is nearby.”

Similar to #6, the Treasure Alert accessory rings when a treasure is nearby. Collectibles are often cleverly hidden in plain sight, so having a bell can give a general idea of where the collectible is located. Collectible treasures are necessary for the 100% completion, and they commemorate Mario’s most memorable moments. As hinted at in #5, 100% completion can uncover a secret ending!

Advantages:

  • Can give a general idea for hard to find collectibles
  • 100% ending
  • Helps with the completion of the Musee collections

Details and how to purchase:

  • Rings when a collectible treasure is near
  • Not available until early-mid game play
  • Purchase in Breezy Tunnel

4. Hidden Block Alert

Game Description: “Makes a sound when you're near a hidden block.”

Ranking at #4, the Hidden Block Accessory is the most useful of the alert accessories. While toads can be found through a Toad Radar and collectibles usually have a vague hint to let you know they’re near, hidden blocks usually have little to no indicators that they are there. In addition, hidden blocks usually contain something useful like weapons, coins, and sometimes even collectible treasures! In addition, discovering blocks is also a section of the 100% gameplay and secret ending.

Advantages:

  • Usually have weapons, collectibles or coins
  • Contribute to the 100% and secret ending
  • Can lead to other hints

Details and how to purchase:

  • Rings when a hidden block is near
  • Available in Mid-Late gameplay
  • Purchase at Snif/Shroom city

3. Gold Time Plus

Game Description: "Gives you a ton of extra time to arrange enemies in battle."

Ranking at #3 is the Gold Time Plus Accessory. Frustrated with the puzzle portion of battles? Sick of wasting hard-earned coins on additional time? Rather pay the Toads to do the puzzle for you? Look no further! Equipping time plus badges gives Mario more time to complete Puzzles without continuously spending money. Like #7, there are regular, Silver, and Gold levels to time accessories. The Gold Time Plus is an essential accessory for late gameplay, providing vital time in battles with advancing enemies and bosses. If you want to lower your blood pressure during battles, purchase the Gold Time Plus!

Advantages:

  • Gives Mario time to complete the puzzle
  • Extremely useful in regular battles
  • Extremely useful in Boss battles

Details and how to purchase:

  • Adds 30 seconds to Mario’s time
  • Not available until late-game play
  • Purchase on Bonehead Island (Great Sea) from the Snift

2. Gold Guard Plus

Game Description: “Reduces the amount of damage you take in battle by a ton.”

Ranking at #3 is the Gold time Plus. Like #3 and #7, there are regular, silver, and gold levels to the guard accessories. #2 is pretty straightforward--it adds to your defense and cuts damage by a quarter. During the final battle against Ollie and the nasty damage he deals, the Guard Plus is a must have!

Advantages:

  • Cuts damage dramatically
  • Gives Mario the advantage against enemies
  • Can save Mario’s life during bosses’ special attacks

Details and how to purchase:

  • Not available until late-game play
  • For every 10,000 steps, Mario gets 10,000 coins
  • Purchase on Bonehead Island (Great Sea) from the Snift

1. Gold Heart Plus

Game Description: “Raises your HP a ton during battle.”

Ranking at #1 is the Gold Time Plus. Like #2, #3, and  #7, there are regular, silver, and gold levels to heart accessories. In the game, HP is the most important feature of Mario’s overall battle strategy. Many special attacks from bosses are designed to knock Mario’s HP by three quarters if he doesn’t select the right move at the right time. With the Gold HP Plus, he has much more health to survive these attacks. In addition, equipping this can also heal Mario after he completes a battle.

Advantages:

  • Adds a great amount of health
  • Can be a life or game-over difference in battle
  • Can heal him after battle
