@TheTantalus's collection of Gamecube remotes.

One point of debate in the Melee community is the best controller for playing the game. It doesn’t generate controversies like tier lists or stage viability. But there are arguments to be made about which one is the best.

Designed for use in the fourth game series, this controller is compatible with competitive play. You are unlikely to see anyone else play 20XX using this setup.

The buttons are placed in a peculiar manner around the front. It still resembles a Gamecube controller but with a tilted angle. A plastic chainsaw juts out on the top.

Overall:

  • You will look eccentric with this controller.
  • It somewhat functions like a normal Gamecube remote.

Price: $300.00 - $600.00

2. Mad Catz

These are the quintessential controllers that are good for when you want to game but are low on money. Give this one to the person who is new to Melee. In essence, it is the same design as a traditional Gamecube controller but with fatter grips and cheaper plastic.

Overall:

  • Cheap price.
  • Appears similar to a Gamecube remote.
  • Low quality.

Price: $15.00 - $20.00

1. Traditional Gamecube

There is no denying it. The best way to play Melee is with the original controller. The controller fits well into the hands and the buttons are easy to mentally adjust. Its plastic is quality.  There’s a reason why future editions of Smash come with Gamecube adaptors.

Overall:

  • Great quality.
  • Optimal for Smash.

Price: $25.00 - $50.00
