[Top 6] Best Valheim Capes (and How to Get Them)
While there are various things that you can customize on your Viking, none can be more important than the capes. While this is mainly a cosmetic piece, some capes are part of something much bigger that can help your character out when it comes to stat bonuses or being part of an armor set that gives additional things for you, and in turn, helps the progression of your gameplay. With that being the case, there have only ever been 6 capes in Valheim ever since its release, with likely add-ons to come once more content is added given its early access nature, but it’s still worthwhile to visit what these capes can give and assess its value to your quest to Viking supremacy.
As with the previous lists, this was created using the latest version available at the time of writing (version 0.202.70 and is based on the progression of function throughout the game and even some style points.
6. Cape of Odin
With a cape as rare as this, the Cape of Odin is one of those mythical items that you can only get when you have played this game for far longer than the game has been up on early access, making for a very niche, but welcomed addition to Valheim.
In-game, it doesn’t offer anything too valuable, because it’s more of a cosmetic piece, but given that this was only given to those who joined Valheim’s Beta, it does fetch some real-life cash for those Viking die-hards who absolutely want it. If you want the power of the Norse god, or at least, a portion of it, you may need to start looking for anyone with an unused code.

5. Deer Hide Cape
It’s more of a given that the start of Valheim’s gameplay has you craft this early on, but as much as it is more of an optional cosmetic, the Deer Hide Cape has some benefits to it as the meager armor given is.
The biggest thing here is that the armor given is still going to be substantial when you upgrade it, and with Deer being something you’d hunt throughout the game, there is no shortage of material to upgrade it. If you choose not to upgrade it, it’s also fine as the Deer Hide Cape isn’t heavily protecting your backsides from enemies, but hey, it’s something extra.

4. Troll Hide Cape
A big step up in the capes department, the blue Troll Hide Cape rounds off the armor set it complements, making this blue cloth a must-have for a sneaky benefit.
Again, capes are mostly cosmetic with a few giving meaningful differences towards your needs, and for this one, it’s the ability to better sneak using the stealth bonus this cape completes with the armor. With this on alongside the Troll Hide Armor, you’ll be able to get closer to mobs without startling them, perfect for the occasional melee Deer hunt. With that being said, the cape is also made of the same stuff as the armor, so you’ll likely be able to complete your desired camo cloak alongside the armor. Just be sure to be well-prepared against the Troll, as its damage can easily send you back into hiding if you mess up. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

3. Linen Cape
Hands down the most colorful option of the bunch, the Linen Cape doesn’t conform to any particular armor set, but it does make whatever you wear a lot more stylish.
The biggest thing the cape has going for it is its customizability, giving you so many choices, albeit limited, and standing out from the rest. While the cape itself is a good way to look your best while killing, the materials needed to make it does do a lot of killing back if you aren’t prepared for it. Luckily, you’ll only need a small piece of everything if you want the rainbows of the cape made, but still, plan your routes well as the Mountain and Plains biomes are the most dangerous areas in the game at the moment, making your quest of being the best-looking Viking in the land a lot redder.

2. Lox Cape
While it looks super warm and cozy, the Lox Cape shares similar paths to another cape on the list but takes the difficulty up a lot more, which wasn’t the case a few months ago.
It used to be that the two best capes in Valheim are incredibly similar and interchangeable with one another in terms of usability, but with how the combat, health, and stamina have changed over the year or so, the difficulty of obtaining one or the other has changed just enough to find a way to separate them. For the Lox Cape, it used to be such an easy task of blocking the attacks on the Lox channels, and you just repeat that in and out.
Now, with reliance on health and stamina for parrying, when you try to do a block with just under a certain health and stamina threshold, you’ll either get a normal block or worse, get staggered and you get heavily damaged the next attack comes round. With that in mind, try to have people juggle around the Lox’s target and kite it around and repeat to be able to get the pelt needed to make it. If you’re on a solo run, expect a lot of running, kiting, and arrows to get the pelt with a lot of time being spent to get it. If you do manage to get the Lox, enjoy its pelt and the meat it drops, with the latter giving you access to some amazing food items that you can cook to better improve your chances of survivability, perfect for doing it all over again if needed.

1. Wolf Fur Cape
Just take whatever the Lox Cape has and make it into a whiter, fluffier version and you get the Wolf Fur Cape.
With the Lox Cape being a much tougher task to get in terms of the area to get it, the Wolf Fur Cape will be slightly more realistic to get in the sense that you’ll be in the Mountains for all of the materials needed, making it a more rational item to craft. While the Mountains are still no joke to no brain and waltz into, you’ll only need to worry about how many Wolves will come at you as one Wolf will be manageable, but 2 or more will be something of a concern to both of you, and your current inventory of items. Because the Wolf is more manageable, health-wise, than the Lox, a well-placed arrow shot when it is unaware of your presence will significantly improve your chances of killing it, and harvesting both the pelt and trophy will allow you to craft the cape and you’ll be able to wear with pride the best cape in the game.
