Whether you are trying Sims Medieval for the first time or are a seasoned vet, when you begin a new game, you start as the Monarch. With over 21 traits it gets a little daunting trying to pick the best ones.

Decisions, decisions. This is what your trait screen will look like in create a sim.

Lucky for you, I will share my list of Top 5 traits to give your Monarch. Each hero sim starts with two traits that define how your sim will interact with the world. I picked these traits based on the buffs they cause and how enjoyable they make gameplay. Pair any two traits on this list to create the perfect monarch!

5. Evil Trait

Have your cake and eat it too...or throw it at criminals, you are the Queen. 

Coming in last, the Evil trait may not seem like the makings of a good monarch, but it will make for a fun one. As the Monarch not only are you a skilled fighter but you can also flex your power by sending people to either the stocks or the pit.

When equipping the evil trait, you receive the “Fiendishly Delighted” buff every time you witness another sim suffering. So, you can duel to your heart's content and watch your villagers get eaten all while increasing your focus and quest performance.

Evil Trait Pros:

• “Fiendishly Delighted” Buff can be earned by dueling
• Buff gives +15 focus and lasts for 6 hours

4. Adventurous Trait

Catch a ship at the docks and go on your next grand adventure.

Being adventurous allows your Monarch to do more with their day. With this trait you gain another interaction at the forest and at the docks where you can go on an adventure. You also earn two new social interactions that your Monarch can use when interacting with their people. 

After going on an adventure, you earn the “What A Great Adventure” Bluff. This bluff is long lasting and once it wears off you can go on another adventure to boost your focus. 

Adventurous Trait Pros:

• Gain new interactions at Forest and Docks
• “What A Great Adventure” Buff earned after going on an adventure
• Buff earns +20 focus and lasts for 11 hours

3. Fun-Loving Trait

Working hard, or hardly working?

The Fun-Loving trait made its way on this list for the easy ways in which you can gain focus. Literally, your Monarch will benefit from doing fun activities.

Focus is boosted initially from the “Entertained” buff, earned by doing a fun activity of your choosing. Then focus increases as it moves to the “Life is So Fun” buff. The activities that trigger this buff range from playing cards to practicing military strategy on the table.  My best advice is to find what your sims enjoys and do that to easily trigger these Buffs. 

Fun-Loving Trait Pros:

• “Entertained” Buff, +-25 focus and lasts for 2 hours
• If entertainment continues, “Having a Blast” Buff appears, +40 focus and lasts 3 hours
• If you have the “Entertained” Buff and do a fun activity, “Life Is So Fun” Buff appears, +50 focus and can last up to 3 hours if you keep doing the activity

2. Scholarly Trait

Getting a good book in before I have to rule a kingdom.

As the monarch you will be doing a lot of writing, so it only makes sense that you are scholarly. You can gain buffs from reading books and examining objects throughout the kingdom.

This is the perfect way to keep your focus boosted with non-time-consuming activities, allowing for more time to focus on those quests while simultaneously boosting quest performance.

Scholarly Trait Pros:

• “Read a Good Book” Buff, +10 focus and lasts 12 hours
• “Fascinated” Buff, comes from examining objects, +15 focus and lasts for 2 hours

1.  Dedicated Trait

Here we see our Queen knocking out her third responsiblity of the day.

Coming in at number 1 is the dedicated trait. Sims with this trait may take on more daily responsibilities, but this is not without reward.

Extra responsibility means extra XP. Successfully completing your tasks will earn you “A Job Well Done” buff that increases focus with every responsibility finished. So, quick math tells us that three completed tasks can equal up to +65 focus. 

Dedicated Trait Pros:

• “A Job Well Done” Buff, earned after completing any of your daily responsibilities
• Buff earns +20 focus for 7 hours
• For every extra responsibility completed, +15 focus is added 
•  

Any combination of these 5 traits will allow your monarch to not only be enjoyable but allow you to earn XP and boost quest performance. I live for chaos so my go to is a mixture between a solid trait (scholarly or dedicated) and a personality booster like evil or fun-loving. Either way, you can’t go wrong.
